Magazine Junction / Magazine Circus**

A bustling landmark in Penang since the early days, Magazine Circus or later known as Magazine Junction was once the central hub for the tramway system, connecting various parts of the city. It later transformed into a distinctive roundabout with six intersecting roads (Jalan Penang, Jalan Gladstone, Jalan Magazine, Jalan Gurdwara, Jalan Datuk Keramat and Jalan Macalister), earning the name Magazine Circus - also known as Simpang Enam in Malay and Go-pha-teng ("Five Lanterns") in Hokkien.

In the 1980s, plans for a civic complex led to the construction of a giant skyscraper – KOMTAR. This junction gradually transformed from a tramway hub into a roundabout, and was eventually replaced by traffic lights, reshaping the city's landscape.

Tramway System**

Magazine Junction was once the hub for the tramway system, connecting various parts of the city. An extension tram line named Brick Kiln Road Extension was suggested and constructed on 1910 with the distance of 968 yards or equivalent to 885 meters. Later, the line further extended through densely populated suburbs, running from Magazine Road to Jelutong and bypassing Brick Kiln Road.

Over time, as the city developed, the electric tram system evolved, giving way to trolleybuses and eventually transitioning into modern transportation systems.
